Mikael Grut Born 1932. Received his schooling in Sweden, studied philosophy at the University of Copenhagen, science at the University of Cape Town, forestry at the University of Stellenbosch, economics at the University of Stockholm, and forest economics at the Royal Swedish School of Forestry. Obtained the degree Doctor of Forest Science in Forest Economics from the latter in 1970. Married Marina Keet in 1959; they have three children and
seven grandchildren. Worked for the Swedish forestry company Modo AB 1959-60, the University of Stellenbosch 1961-77, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome 1977-81, the World Bank in Washington DC 1981-94, and is now an independent writer and forest economics consultant based in London.
